Project Theme/Title: Suicide Bereavement and Impact of Stigma on Help-Seeking Behavior in Nairobi, Kenya
Abstract: The primary objective of this proposed research study is to investigate the presence and patterns of depression and suicidal ideation among family members who have experienced suicide bereavement in Nairobi, Kenya. The study will also explore cultural underpinnings that create and exacerbate stigmatizing behaviors towards suicide. Study findings will be used to highlight the mental health needs of those who are bereaved by suicide, how stigma affects access to care, and propose best practices to combat stigma and encourage help-seeking behavior.
