Joint Berkeley-Stanford Center for African
Studies
Summer 2000 Ford Faculty Teaching Africa Workshop
Marconi Conference Center
August 6-8, 2000
Responding to a Ford Foundation initiative to strengthen African
Studies and assure the training and the diversity of the next generation
of scholars and policy makers in the field,
the Joint Stanford-Berkeley Center for African Studies is hosting a
summer workshop at the Marconi Conference Center near Tamales Bay for 15 Northern
California college and university faculty who will be incorporating African
Studies into their undergraduate course curricula.
The workshop aims
-
to help strengthen the curriculum offerings on Africa in colleges throughout
the area,
-
to create potential mentors who will encourage undergraduates, particularly
minority students, to pursue African Studies in their post graduate careers,
and
-
to further develop a collaborative and collegial group of Africanists in
California post-secondary education.
For this workshop, the Joint Center has developed the materials below. Other materials will be added in the future.
