About this database

Objective: A simple and searchable on-line database of syllabi relevant to African Studies and publicly posted to the World Wide Web.

Genesis: This web syllabi interface emerged from a summer 2000 Ford Foundation sponsored workshop for faculty teaching African Studies . Iran Carranza, student assistant at the Center, did the initial web searches for syllabi. Corrie Decker, a doctoral student in History, developed the database. A team of programmers in International and Area Studies produced the searchable web interface.

Maintenance: The website interface is maintained by Information Systems and Services of International and Area Studies at the University of California. The Center for African Studies updates the database of syllabi and URLs. As of 6/18/01, we recognize that there is much to clean up in the underlying database. However, we wanted to make the system available immediately for use and comments. The Center relies on feedback from users to keep information current. Please e-mail us with correction, updates and comments, asc@berkeley.edu
